Koh Rong Island, Cambodia

Koh Rong is an island off the coast of southern Cambodia. Koh Rong has spectacular beaches with crystal-clear water… water that rivals Fiji for some of the clearest and bluest that I’ve seen! Island life consists of reading a book in a hammock, walking the beach, lying in the sun, eating, and sleeping. There is no internet on the island so you are really forced to just enjoy the scenery and not worry about what the rest of the world is doing. When I was on Koh Rong, the “French Survivor” show was being filmed – just more confirmation that this island is truly paradise and away from civilization!

Cabbages and Condoms

There is a very unique hotel and restaurant in Thailand where the theme is “safe sex.” The whole restaurant is made out of condoms! There are manikins wearing condom outfits, flowers on the table whose petals are condoms, posters of condoms, decorations in the trees made up of condoms, and baskets of free condoms by the register. Most restaurants give mints or candy when you get the check, but this place gives you a different type of “life-saver!”.

Monkey Forest of Ubud

The Monkey Forest is a sacred nature reserve where a lot of monkeys live [of course]. There is a temple inside this Monkey Forest and it’s a very relaxing place to take a stroll… “While I was there, I saw three monkeys pull on a girl’s long skirt and showing their teeth to scare her, and another girl that was almost in tears running away throwing her bananas at them to try to get them away.”

Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Ubud is a really relaxed and comfortable town with inexpensive villas, charming shops, cafes with free WiFi, and nice restaurants. It’s a great place to recuperate from traveling or to have as your only destination. Find a villa for about US$10 per night [NOT per person], stay a week and get to know the amazing surroundings.

Something unique about Ubud is that there is a Monkey Temple [or Monkey Forest] located right within the town.
