Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

In a Coconut Shell

Kailua-Kona is the district that Kailua is in located on the west [dry] side of Hawaii [The Big Island].  This town has a lot of character and is worth visiting… I mean, a local brewery, world-famous coffee, and a cute little town on the beach with bars, coffee shops, stores, and more?! I didn’t want to leave.  Kona is 10 minutes south of the international airport, so it’s not difficult to get to.

What to Do and See

The Townis filled with coffee shops, restaurants, stores, gift shops, bars, and more!  It’s located right on the water so there is a town beach where you can enjoy swimming and snorkeling while waiting for dinner.

Kona Coffee is, literally, the best coffee in the world!  Kona Coffee has entered the international coffee contest with about 30,000 other participants and has won first place for over 10 years in a row!  That is an amazing record, worth bragging about, and something you need to taste if you love coffee.

Kona Brewing Company. Another beverage that is produced in Kona beside coffee is beer.  Right in town, there is the Kona Brewing Company that brews 14 different beers.  Take a free, 1 hour, tour with four free samples at the end!  There are two tours every day: 10:30am and 3pm.  If you’re interested, go to the brewery and sign up early because the tours fill up fast – they recommend to sign up no before 10am for the 10:30am tour and at about 12pm for the 3pm tour.
