Throwback to the past decade - This was taken in 2009, I think... ⠀ For those of you who don't really know me, here's my last 10 years, in a nutshell: ⠀ I graduated in 2008 with my Master's in Math Education. Taught for 3 years in Virginia. Created ℍ𝕠𝕝𝕖𝕊𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕤.𝕔𝕠𝕞 Quit teaching in Virginia to travel the world. Traveled all over for about 2 years. Lived and worked in Norway (tending bar). Drove across the US on my motorcycle. Moved to Seattle (teaching Math at a college). Created my own tutoring business. Traveled some more. Moved to Spain (teaching English, Math, and Science). Traveled. Moved back to Seattle (teaching Computer Science). Bought my Tiny House! @TinyHouse.Seattle Had my house up in the mountains Snowboarded 4-5 days per week. Then moved my tiny house close to downtown Seattle. Traveled some more. Moved back to Norway (teaching Math and Computer Science). And, as of just a few weeks ago, just became an official resident of Norway =) ⠀ My life for the past 10 years has been traveling the world, and teaching in between big adventures... I'm really proud of this life-of-freedom that I've built for myself and I'm super excited to see what the next decade will bring! ⠀ I really appreciate all of you who have been following my journey - you guys rock <3 Happy New Year, everyone!
#HoleStoriesTravelTroll playing around during Christmas and making tree-friends! ⠀ Have you ever spent the holidays away from home? This year, I was home in NY, but I've spent many holidays away from home due to traveling or working abroad... The toughest holiday for me to be away is Thanksgiving (and I feel like I'm ALWAYS away for Thanksgiving!)... but the weirdest holiday abroad was one year for Christmas I was in Australia - It was the hottest I've ever been in my life, and Santa was wearing swim shorts and holding a surfboard! Haha that's just weird... And feels so wrong! =P ⠀ For you guys, is Christmas the most difficult holiday to be away from home? Where have you been during the holidays? How was it?
I bet the city of Ljubljana looks amazing right now for the holidays. I was there this summer and it was super cute and cozy. It was cool outside, so people were wearing jackets and jeans, and the cafes had heaters and cozy blankets outside. I can only imagine how cozy and cute it is now... Has anyone been there for the holidays?? =) ⠀ BY THE WAY!! Ljubljana made my "Top Favorite Cities" list! Back to the US for the holidays! I haven't been back since summertime, and even then, it was only for a few days. Besides seeing my family, I'm excited for Long Island bagels and craft beer that isn't $30!! NY delis with egg sandwiches and 24-hour diners... Oh man... I'm coming for you, USA!!
Traveling isn't about "finding" yourself -- you aren't lost. It's about creating yourself and always growing into a better version of the you which already exists.
Let curiosity lead the way. ⠀ Being a math teacher, I can tell you for sure, that anyone is capable of memorizing formulas and facts... But true understanding and learning comes from deep curiosity -- Continuous questioning will magically connect all the dots and those epiphany moments will happen... ⠀ The same concept applies to traveling: it pushes you to experience new things first hand, about the outside world and about yourself. Never stop questioning, and always let curiosity lead the way.
How old am I today? I have no idea... My mother probably knows... But who cares? Life is too short to be counting the years - Just enjoy the ride and make awesome memories along the way... Here's to exploring a different corner of the world every December 4th! Happy Birthday to me =)
Sometimes, the only reason for us to travel, is to see things from different perspectives. ⠀ Travel is the ultimate way to exercise a "growth mindset", the ultimate self-reflection, and the best way to look at things in a whole new light. ⠀ I really believe that travel is the answer for any tough situation you're in: a break-up, career change, death... Anything. Traveling presents to you familiar things, yet forces your brain to look at the things (and situations) differently. ⠀ Here's the famous Trevi Fountain, in Rome, from a completely different perspective. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
