Vilnius, Lithuania

Vilnius is a city of rich history, baroque beauty, and a vibrant creative spirit. Its UNESCO-listed Old Town is one of the largest in Europe, filled with picturesque streets, grand churches, and cozy courtyards. Stroll through the bustling Pilies Street, admire the stunning Gediminas Castle Tower with panoramic city views, and visit the magnificent Cathedral Square.

For a unique experience, explore the self-proclaimed artistic republic of Užupis, known for its bohemian vibe, quirky art, and independent spirit. The modern side of Vilnius shines in its lively cafés, street art, and cultural hubs like MO Museum. Nature lovers will enjoy a peaceful walk in Bernardine Garden or a short trip to the serene Trakai Castle, set on a picturesque island.

With its welcoming atmosphere, rich heritage, and dynamic energy, Vilnius is a city that invites you to discover something special at every turn. Here are some of the top things to see and do in the Lithuanian capital:

Cathedral Square & Vilnius Cathedral

The heart of the city, this grand square is home to the impressive Vilnius Cathedral, a symbol of Lithuania’s deep-rooted history and culture.

Užupis – The Bohemian Republic

This was my favorite are in Vilnius! A quirky district, often compared to Montmartre in Paris, is filled with street art, cozy cafés, and a unique independent spirit. Don’t miss the Užupis Constitution, humorously declaring the rights of its “citizens.”

St. Anne’s Church & Bernardine Church

A stunning Gothic masterpiece, St. Anne’s Church is one of the most beautiful landmarks in Vilnius, with intricate red brickwork that even Napoleon admired.

The Gate of Dawn

The only remaining city gate of medieval Vilnius, it houses a sacred painting of the Virgin Mary, an important pilgrimage site for Catholics.

MO Museum

A modern art museum showcasing contemporary Lithuanian art, perfect for those looking to explore the creative side of Vilnius.

Three Crosses Hill

A scenic viewpoint with an iconic monument that offers another incredible panoramic view of the city, especially at sunset.

One of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe, with stunning courtyards and a breathtaking library that is well worth a visit.

Trakai Castle (Day Trip)

Just a short drive from Vilnius, this fairytale-like castle sits on an island in Lake Galvė. It’s one of the most picturesque spots in Lithuania and a great place for a day trip.

Food & Drinks

Baras Begemoto Sapnas

Kind of a famous pub. If you see the Hippo when you walk in, you’re in the right place! Grab some hippo stickers and enjoy a pint.
